OE and aftermarket references: what to check

Understand why OE, aftermarket brand and internal stock numbers should be recorded separately when sourcing engine and transmission mounts.

A number needs a numbering system

The same characters can be used in different catalogues. Record the number together with the manufacturer or aftermarket brand that issued it. A buyer stock code and a supplier stock code are separate identifiers even when they describe a similar-looking component.

A cross-reference is a relationship to verify

A proposed match should carry its source and the application it covers. Record whether it is a catalogue statement, supplier confirmation or a relationship still awaiting review. A match on a web page is not, on its own, a completed fitment check.

Keep application limits with the reference

Compare the model year, engine, transmission, market version and mounting position. Keep any stated exclusions or replacement conditions alongside the number. Do not extend a match from one vehicle version to another without supporting information.

Use the public catalogue and request review where needed

BTYCOLOR currently publishes selected supplier catalogue references. Our public search does not yet publish confirmed equivalents for every aftermarket brand. If your number is absent, send the number, its brand or source and the relevant vehicle details for review. No search result means no published match, not a confirmed supply decision.
